Help Prevent Toxic Build-up In Your Body

By Barbara Gordon

Today, many of us are concerned about the toxins we are exposed to in our air, water and food. These toxins accumulate and are stored in our bodies just as they are in the atmosphere and the oceans and can eventually lead to disease.

Fortunately, there are many ways to rid our bodies of toxins, from detox cocktails to far infrared saunas. To avoid further problems, detoxification should be tailored to the individual by health-care professionals. There are also simple things we can do ourselves to lessen our toxic load. Lifestyle choices such as what we put into our homes, onto or into our bodies and the use of exercise, to move toxins out, can all contribute to keeping our bodies healthy and well balanced.

The lymphatic system plays an significant roll in this. It is in charge of collecting and removing wastes and is a highway for the immune system. Lymphatic vessels pick up leaked fluids, cell debris, bacteria and viruses from the body's tissues, which are then cleansed, filtered, monitored by cells of the immune system and returned to the bloodstream.

As a Bowen therapist, I work on lymphatic drainage at the turn of seasons and after illness to aid the lymphatic system. I also teach clients, men and women, a procedure they can do at home to increase lymph drainage under breast tissue, encouraging the area to remain free of toxic buildup. This procedure also helps those women with sensitive breasts, usually before or during menstruation. If you would like to try this yourself please follow the instructions below.

This procedure can be done weekly or monthly. All moves are gentle just moving across the skin. This procedure is not recommended for those with breast or pectoral implants.

a Notice the mid point of your upper arm and position of your nipple. The moves will be performed just above and below this point but under the breast tissue.

b Using your left hand, push your breast straight down and out of the way. Lay the length of your right index finger next to and above the left index finger (so they are touching) centered where your nipple would normally be. Take a deep breathe in and let it out.  c Keeping both hands together and glued to the skin gently move them, at the same time, toward the side of your body as far as you can without sliding on the skin.  d Now, adding slightly more pressure to the length of your right index finger, move both hands back toward the centre of the body as far as the skin will allow without sliding over it. Release and breathe.

e With your left hand lift your left breast straight up and out of the way. Place the pad of your right index finger just below and against your left little finger centered where your nipple would normally be and feel for a sensitive spot. Take a deep breathe in and let it out.  f This time, with both hands together and glued to the skin, gently draw the skin towards the centre of your body as far as you can without sliding over the skin.   g Adding a bit more pressure to the pad of your right index finger move both hands toward the side of your body as far as the skin will allow without sliding over it. Release and breathe.

Do the same with your right breast using opposite hands.
